Got the stupid hats open!

It's day 6 of practice. It appears I'm learning all over again...

However:
It appears I only needed to play some metal. Thanks to my son for the tasty guitar riffs. I feel as though I had a real breakthough last night.

No masterful control or counting, but a helluva lot of fun, we played some thrashy metal for like an hour last night. The bassist a couple houses over came over as well... I'm afraid to check if there is any damage to my hats or the snare rim from the ass whooping they got, as I was playing way outta control, and WAY too hard - but again, I was in rockstar mode.

I have money now at this point in my life, so everything is fixable if needbe :)

Back to 1/8th note counting exercises today......   *big sigh*

Oh and to all the newbs like me - relax, take it slow, and let the good times roll. (dumbass American Pie reference - I know - I know...) Lol, no but seriously your foot will stop sliding, your calves and thigh will stop hurting in heel up and down - just stay after it!

One thing I realize I have to do now? Play - PLAY without any care in the world, just play the damn things every once in a while. 1+2+3+4+ will stifle your love at the kit if thats ALL you do day in and day out. Its all I've done for the past 6 days until last night.

Now for a pic of my ghetto practice pad until fedex gets my sweetwater order here:
Take care and keep drumming!

Yesterday Sucked - Unmotivated.

Thought I'd get in some decent practice yesterday - boy was I wrong. Up, down, up, Down - take car ee of this and that... Completely unmotivated me for when I had solid time to practice. Oh well, its like 7:30am - I'll wait until the neighbors are up, and then I'll marathon four or five 1 hour sessions.

Hats and ca... NM - Just the hats... Day two...

So I've got to get the hats open, especially while playing heel down. As a side note, who in the hell plays heel up and can bounce the hats? God? I'd fall off the damned throne... I suppose its a relaxation and balance issue; keep in mind I'm still cocking my foot occasionally (not as bad as when I started) when playing heel up and down...

Its coming along...

So the first song I'm going to re-learn? You guessed it... AC/DC - Back in Black. Its what I learned the first time through as well. Thanks to DrumNinja for his excellent transcription. Anyone have any suggestions for a WELL KNOWN (one that EVERYONE has tapped their foot to it at one time or another) classic rock tune to learn along side this one? I don't want to substitute fills, so don't suggest Kashmir.

Drums Drums Drums - Week One

So after a twenty plus year hiatus from the drums - it appears that human beings have the ability to rewire their brains. I have NO limb independance anymore. I'm having to start from scratch again... Its groovy though - I loved learning before, and I am really enjoying it again. My hands work well enough alone independant, but cross wiring them in with my feet? Umm, yea; challenging to say the very least.

I've got a 90bpm basic 1/8 note groove down with no open hat on the and of seven (which sucks) but I'll get there. Hell I've only been at it just a few days.

Also, did you know that when you get old and fat that you lose muscle and tendon in your legs? Did you know your fatty thigh muscles are attached to your hip? Did you know that if you don't exercise every day and then start playing heel down your calve muscle feels like its going to explode? Did you know that its really hard to relax when your 40+ and you have been going through life doing EVERYTHING unintentionally tense as hell? ( I think I tensed up 16 years ago when my wife walked in the room and said "we're pregnant!" and then I have not relaxed since )

Start drumming again - you'll learn all these things and more...

Anyhow, here she is:

I'll try and get some video or a sound clip up later when the neighbors are awake :)
